Princess Alexandra Exeter (later the Lazy Landlord)
Princess_Alexandra

The Princess Alexandra, 9 Bonhay Road, Exeter, Devon in 1973-74.The pub was situated between the now A377 Bonhay Road and the River Exe and was on a route to and from the market. From www.exetermemories.co.uk I have gleaned the following;- The spirit license was first applied for in 1863 but turned down so the pub carried on just selling beer and cider. In 1864 the spirit license was granted. The pub was named after Princess Alexandra of Denmark who married the Prince of Wales in 1863. The pub was taken over in 1969 by Austin Outside Caterers as it gave them an alcohol license for outside catering events. At the time of this photo (1974) the property was owned by Bass and it can be seen that their neighbour was the registered office of Norrington Oils. The brewery closed the pub in 1982, it re-opened as the Lazy Landlord, closed in 2000 and was demolished in 2002. The site is now apartments - Princess Alexandra Court.
